Snook and redfish are making there way out of the deep backcountry, to the outer islands to feed on the all the small baitfish. Good strong tides will really get these fish moving around and looking for anything that resembles a bait fish. If you want to bring a big numbers of fish to the boat your live well better be packed full of pilchards(shiners). We are concentrating on any structure in the water that has current moving over it. A good cast close to these areas will insure that your drag will be screaming!!! May is one of my favorite months to fish , so time to stay alert as these big fish will moving around.

Big jacks are showing up in numbers & if your looking for a drag screaming fight these fish never disappoint. Snook and redfish have been cruising the outer islands feeding on glass minnows and thread-fin herring. The name of the game for me is chum heavy to get these fish all fired up then just cast into the feeding frenzy and hold on.

Our weather has been perfect with ESE winds and the gulf is clean and clear. Snook have been roaming the beaches and have been in the creeks looking for food. A live full of pilchards (live bait) has been the best way to get these bigger fish to come of there hiding spots to feed. Sea trout and redfish have been few but the ones we are catching are mixed in with the snook action. Tarpon are showing up and as soon as the winds lay down a bit I will focus more of my attention on catching some of Floridas finest game fish. Stay tuned!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 Marco Island & Naples Fl have been producing some great light tackle fishing. Gulf waters have been clean & clear which has been great for sight fishing opportunities. Snook/Jacks & redfish have been moving out of the backcountry and making there way to the beaches to feed on schools of glass minnows. Locating shorelines with bait dimpling the surface is a sure sign that your headed in right direction. Fly fishing has been great on the early morning low incoming tides. EP & glass minnow patterns have been working great in getting good strikes.
