Gloomy sky’s have brought relief from the hot summer sun. My mornings have been the best to catch a bunch of fish and beat the rain. The sea trout bite has been on fire. Live bait has been the best but jigs/flies and soft plastics have all been just as productive. Snook and pompano are still thick out the outside island & beaches. Gin clear water has us sight fishing the shallows for snook. A well place cast in front of a laid up fish will surely get their attention.

It’s been a rough week of some much needed rain to SW FL. If you can beat the storms or fish around them your can have some great action. There are still some small tarpon around in the backcountry. Live bait and soft plastics (white) have been the best way to get a strike. Snook are thick on the outside island and beaches. This month look for them cruising the white sand. A well placed cast to the front of the schools will surly get them interested . Pompano are in abundance. We have been site fishing them in 2 feet or less cruising the white sand beaches. A shrimp tipped jig is your best bet to get them interested (6per angler -minimum of 11in to the fork). Take what you need for dinner and let the rest go. Switching gears the rest of the month to chase some bigger Tarpon that are migrating down our beaches.
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 This month is a great for targeting these big snook that roam the outside islands . Live bait is always preferred but an early morning top water bite is another ways to entice a strike . Sea trout have been in good numbers since late March and will continue through this month. Tarpon have been showing up just off our beaches . A live thread fin herring or pilchard casted in front of these rolling fish is what will get you some bites . Cold fronts should be over and our summer weather will soon settle in . Ready for an action packed May !!!
