It’s been an action packed week of fishing around the Naples & Marco Island areas. I have switched gears a bit and dialed into the pompano and redfish bite. I am finding good pompano on the incoming tides around the passes. Shrimped tipped jigs are always a sure bet but I am also having success with bright colored (pink/chartreuse) wiggle jigs. Slow retrieve making sure to be bouncing the bottom will ensure a good bite. Redfish have also been chewing inshore and in the backcountry on the morning incoming tides. Live pilchards, cut mullet and lady fish chunks have all been great baits to get them feeding good. Get out early and beat the heat. Good luck !!!

Morning incoming tides have the inshore and backcountry fishing around Naples and Marco island red hot. Snook, tarpon, sea trout, mangrove snapper & redfish have all been targets this week. If you're looking for some great eating Inshore fish, you have try the sweet meat of mangrove snapper. In the summer months the snapper fishing is action packed. Look for shorelines with structure that are close to the passes with current . These fish will group up looking for an easy meal to float on by. Don’t forget to dial down your leaders to 15lb Florocarbon as they have a keen eye to pick out heavy leaders. Chum heavy to get them feeding and also to pull them out of there hiding spots. It’s 5 fish per person limit with minimum length of 10inches. Anybody in for FISH TACOS !!!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 The inshore and backcountry fishing around Naples and Marco island continues to produce some outstanding action. Snook Are plentiful from the beaches to the backcountry. Live bait (pilchards) are always the easy method but if your looking for a fun challenge try casting artificials. Mirror lure Is one of my favorite company's that makes tons of life like hard baits that you can cast a mile. When the water is crystal clear and I have located schooling fish it’s nice to sit back, far off the school and try to present my lure as life like as I can to entice a strike. It’s great to see the fish explode on your lure, as this is a sign that you have done everything perfect to Fool that fish into a bite. It’s always fun to mix it up. Get out and go get M !!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 Big Snook have be Plentiful in the Naples & Marco island areas. The inshore and backcountry fishing has been spot on for this time of year. Snook are cruising the beaches in big numbers . Look pelicans diving or snowy egrets lined up on the beach feasting on small pods of baitfish. These are the areas I have been concentrating on and this is where you will find snook , redfish & sea trout . Tarpon have been cruising just off our beaches as well. Look for rolling fish early in the morning & make sure to position your boat to intercept the schools as they swim by. My bait of choice is Pass crabs, threadfin herring and even mullet. Get out early and beat the heat .
