October fishing remains on fire!! The weather has been on point with nice breezes out of the East allowing the gulf to settle into some gin clear water. Snook and redfish have been everywhere from the inshore beaches to the deep backcountry. Live bait has been thick on the beaches of South Naples and Marco island and with a few throws if the cast net your live should be loaded . Also there have been big Jacks, juvenile tarpon ,Spanish mackerel and mangrove snapper getting in on the mix. If you're looking for some great table Fare nothing beats pan fried mangrove snapper tacos. We are allowed 5 per person with a minimum of 10inches. Get out and enjoy this great weather.

Last weeks backcountry and inshore fishing was on point, with big numbers of snook and redfish on the line. October is always one of my favorite months to target red fish around Naples and Marco island. I really focus on islands they have a lot of bird activity. This is due to the amount of small bait fish they get pushed in with the Tides. Station your boat just off where you see the tiny ripples of small bait fish & cast some live bait(pilchards/ mullet) directly to that Shoreline. Also at times I like to get my bait down to the bottom so I use a small split shot to get underneath the bait pods. snook ,snapper and big jacks will also be mixed in So be ready for the drag to start screaming. Do to the “new moon” phase we are in, tides Have been strong so make sure you find an island or Shoreline that doesn’t have too much current on it or the fish will be so deep in the cover you will not be able to reach them. It’s all about finding that shoreline that has that magic recipe. When you find it you’ll know ;)
C u on the water ! Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 I know I say it every report but Naples and Marco island inshore fishing continues to produce some world class angling ! For all you live bait fishermen you can find it everywhere this time of year . With a few cast of the net you can black out your well. I like to use a 9ft 1/4mesh for all my summer and fall bait . This small size of mesh will allow the bait to netted without plugging every hole in your net. This week has been high incoming tides & these tides are perfect for some backcountry mangrove action. Redfish and snook have really been active with double digits of fish coming to the boat every day . One trick is to look for a shoreline that has lots of snowy egrets posted just over the water feeding . This means bait is getting pushed into the mangroves and it’s always a great place to power pole down and shoot some baits up close to the bushes . Make sure you have your drags set as these bigger snook and reds love to hit and run deep into cover . Get out and enjoys the out doors. I will see you on the water !!!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 The Inshore & backcountry fishing around the Naples and Marco island areas remain on Fire! Schools Live bait have flooded the beaches drawing the snook , redfish , sea trout , jacks and tarpon out of hiding . This time of year Snook are everywhere, just find and area where there is good current and cast live baits around the fallen structure . October is a great month to locate schools of big tarpon that are feeding heavy just off our beaches . I have been using live mullet (6-8in) and casting then into the school if rolling fish . A 5/0-7/0 circle hook has been working to perfection to keep these big fish from throwing the hook . This is one of my favorite months to be fishing as there is opportunities to catch all of our top 4 game fish in the same day .
