Always great fishing a few days before a cold front is supposed to reach us. Snook and redfish were abundant in the Deeper backcountry bays and islands. Live bait with a pop N cork attached and a close cast to the mangroves, really was important in getting those hard strikes. Now that the weather has changed and water temps are on the cool look for sea trout to make there way into shallows. I use a 3/8oz jig with a artificial shrimp and some pro cure shrimp sauce to get the action going. It’s important to slow everything down when we have these cold temps as our fish just get lazy. Look for temperatures to rebound back to the upper 70s by the weekend. <•{{{{><

Well let’s just say it was very busy few weeks of fishing & the backcountry did not disappoint. Snook and redfish were on the prowl with good numbers caught every day. I was excited to have one of my long time clients and his son fly in for 3 days of fishing. They didn’t waste much time getting dialed back into saltwater game. Live bait is still the best way to keep that action going all day but can be hard to catch at times around these cold fronts. Redfish have been on the smaller side but are prevalent deep in the backcountry on the higher tides. Pompano have been showing up but not in huge numbers. It's best to fish for them on the clean high incoming tides with shrimp tipped jigs. Looking forward to another solid week of fishing!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 First good cold front came today. It’s was a muddy mess out front close to the beaches but I was able to load my live well full of bait & headed straight for the clean water of the backcountry. As winter approaches our temps will start to drop in the evenings and cooler gulf waters will allow snook to head to the creeks and back bays where they will spend the winter. Another fun game fish that are prevalent in the cooler waters are spotted sea trout. I find artificial baits (jigs / clouser flies) work great to get the action going on a cool morning .
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 The options are endless this time of year for snook, redfish, pompano, sharks, triple tail, mackerel, snapper & sea trout. If your looking for some good meat for the grill our mangrove snapper, triple tail & pompano are some of the best. Live bait is prevalent on the offshore wrecks and with a few cast we are ready for some backcountry action. Our weather is changing next week for the better as temps will drop into the upper 70s, which make it so enjoyable to be in the outdoors. See yah out there <•{{{{><
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 Our weather here in SW FL has been stellar. Most mornings can be sensory overload with not just great fishing action but also the wildlife such as dolphins and bald eagles that frequent the same areas. Ok back to fishing. Tides have been really low in the mornings which makes for some great snook and jack action. Live bait as always is the ticket to getting them feeding and sticking around for seconds. As the water fills the mangroves we divert our attention to the backcountry for some redfish action. They are very tight to the roots and bushes so a good cast close is what it takes to get some good strikes!
