It was another solid week of fishing for snook, tarpon, sea trout, pompano, redfish and pompano . Winds have been remained out of the east which has kept the gulf clean & clear. Weather it’s sight fishing for snook on the outer islands or chasing tarpon in the backcountry September is a great month to get a taste of it all.

The fishing this week has been stellar. Light ESE winds have allowed me to hit some late summer tarpon action. It’s an early bite as the winds tend to pick up around the 10am mark so I have been hustling to get to my spots just as the sun is coming up. Live bait (mullet/pilchard/thread Fin Harring) are all great baits this time of year. You have to be super stealthy when approaching these fish & it’s best to be baited up and ready to go when the trolling motor is running. I am using a big 6/0 circle hook with 60lb braid and a 80lb leader. Hold on and be ready to bow to the king!!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 The past week we have jumped a some nice tarpon and caught a bunch of really nice snook, redfish have started to show on the higher tides along with sea trout and pompano. Weather continues to remain consistent and this will allow the fish to settle into there feeding zones. Should be another action packed week of fishing!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 Fishing this week has been action packed. Snook, trout, redfish, pompano, tarpon, sharks, mackerel and snapper are plentiful in the backcountry. Live bait has finally showed up in masses. Two throws of the net we have all we need for the day. Early morning fly fishing bite has been great. Top water gurgler striped erratically has been effective to get the snooks attention. With weather stable, expect fishing to remain productive.
Capt. Tim Daugherty Snook are still chewing good in the backcountry. Concentrating on shorelines that gave activity. When I say activity I mean bait & birds. These 2 things are very important if you want to catch a bunch of fish is one area. These game fish (snook/redfish/trout/snapper) are staging up to feast on the abundance of small bait. I still chum heavy to bring them out of there hiding spots. This makes it easy to keep the action going. Good luck & go get em'!
