The inshore/backcountry Redfish, snook & sea trout fishing has been heating up. Naples and Marco island has been some of the warmest temps in the country and with these warm temps comes hungry fish. I have been finding good fishing on the morning incoming tides around the middle islands fishing shorelines with good current. Live bait has has been plentiful and with a few cast we are loaded up for some action packed fishing. What’s really cool about this fishery is how all of our game fish cohabitate with each other. With this said you never know what you’re going to catch on any given cast. The name of the game get that bait as close to the shoreline as possible as if it slips too far out in the middle is “Jack crevalle” city. Pound for pound one of the strongest fish in the back country and we have had loads to pull on. What’s the weather stabilizing look for the fishing to heat up even more. Get outside and enjoy this great playground!

Marco island and Naples Fl offer a verity of inshore/backcountry species. We all love to target snook ,tarpon and redfish but we also have sea trout, triple tail and monster jacks that roam the backcountry. Trout have been plentiful around the outside island and the deep backcountry holes. Shrimp tipped jigs are great at getting action on a cold winter days. When the weather warms and gulf temps rise to 70 degrees or greater look for bait to start to move back onto the beaches . 10ft 1/4in mesh cast net is perfect for those fast winter beach baits. With cold fronts coming every week , make sure to take advantage of those good days and get out on the water and enjoy this great playground.
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 Red hot fishing in Naples and Marco island continues to Produce some great winter time fishing. It blows my mind how this time of year are fishery goes crazy when we get some consistent good weather. With cold fronts still coming in just about every week we have a window of nice weather , usually three or four days where the fishing really heats up. Snook and redfish have been our main targets. Live bait is always preferred but a shrimp on a jig head can be just as deadly if put in the right place. We have been concentrating on creeks and rivers close to the gulf with good strong current. I like to position my boat bow into the current and fish the shoreline in sections. I would have to say my most important tool other than my Suzuki engine is my Minnkota trolling motor. This tool allows me to get my anglers directly parallel to the structure and methodically cast baits in every nook and cranny . With just a simple push of a Button I am able to drop back 30 yards And start fishing a whole new pile of fish. It’s power fishing at its finest. Get out and enjoy some of this great weather.
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 It was a another sold week of fishing the backcountry areas of Naples and Marco island . It’s now in the winter months we can have some cold windy conditions but we seek refuge in the creeks and rivers . We are targeting snook , redfish , sea trout, black drum , pompano , and some resident tarpon . Live bait(pilchards) is a treat this time of year but when conditions get tuff we can use live shrimp and have great winter time action . My favorite winter rig is a knocker rig (1/2oz weight) free sliding to a #1 hook and a 1/2 shrimp . I like to concentrate on deep shorelines as these fish in the colder months tend to pool up in the holes. Also a 3/4oz jig tipped with a small piece of shrimp is deadly in getting those tight lipped fish to take a bait . Bundle up , get outside and joy these nice sunny winter conditions.
