It was a another sold week of fishing the backcountry areas of Naples and Marco island . It’s now in the winter months we can have some cold windy conditions but we seek refuge in the creeks and rivers . We are targeting snook , redfish , sea trout, black drum , pompano , and some resident tarpon . Live bait(pilchards) is a treat this time of year but when conditions get tuff we can use live shrimp and have great winter time action . My favorite winter rig is a knocker rig (1/2oz weight) free sliding to a #1 hook and a 1/2 shrimp . I like to concentrate on deep shorelines as these fish in the colder months tend to pool up in the holes. Also a 3/4oz jig tipped with a small piece of shrimp is deadly in getting those tight lipped fish to take a bait . Bundle up , get outside and joy these nice sunny winter conditions.
