West winds have us fishing the protected shorelines of the backcountry. Snook and mangrove snapper have been plentiful. Concentrating on shorelines with bait & birds on them. It’s been a fun week with the opportunity of fishing some of the younger generation. Great to see these kids enjoying the outdoors with family.

Snook are roaming the beaches in good numbers. The Bigger fish have been on the deeper shorelines. They aren’t coming out far to chase a live bait. A cast 1 to 3 feet from the mangroves is what it takes to get a big boy to eat on these hot summer days. The Sea trout bite has slowed but the pompano bite has picked up. Pompano fishing is really productive right off our beaches. A jig (bright colors) tipped with a small piece of shrimp is exactly what they are looking for.
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 The fishing remains steady. Snook, jacks, pompano and sea trout are all cruising the islands. A live well full of shiners makes it easy to locate staging fish. Chum heavy and watch them rise to the surface to fill there belly’s. Any spot with some moving water is a good place to
stop and fish. Give it 10mins and if no fish show it’s time to move on. Summer time fishing for me is all about “stick and move” till you find them. Catch M up !!!! Capt. Tim Daugherty Naples Fishing Charters The weather remains hot so get up early and beat the heat. I have been starting most of my trips around 6am to get a jump on the cooler morning temps. Snook are still prowling the shallows and artificial (top water) lures can be a fun way to get a strike. Trout & pompano are still loaded up in the passes and on the beaches.
