Every morning starts with a few throws of my cast to load up on live bait. Then it’s off to to the backcountry for some snook/redfish/seatrout & Tarpon action. For my fly anglers a surface fly (gurgler) casted tight to the trees will insure a strike. Sea trout have been on the feed. Looking for current rips that have some depth. What’s been working is A live bait tight to the bottom. A split shot for lighter currents and a 1/2oz led for fast currents. Fly fishing a Clouser pattern with a slower retrieve in the same current is another way to get these fish tight on the line.

Fishing around these cold fronts can be a bit tricky. Typically, we get 2 days of onshore winds that always muddy up out fishery. When this happens Its time to leave the outer islands and get deep in the backcountry where the water stays clean and green. There're are always small concentrations of snook, tarpon, jacks , snapper , sea trout and redfish. Just have to know where to look. The fishing should pick right back up as the weather stabilizes .
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 April is well on it way to some great fishing . Snook, Tarpon , Redfish , Sea Trout & pompano have all been targets on any given day. Live bait has been the ticket to getting constant action throughout the day. Fly fishing this time of the year can be very rewarding . Clear clear gulf water is the perfect canvas for some great sight fishing opportunities. Surface flies casted deep into the mangrove pockets can produce some great early morning action . Tight Lines! Capt. Tim Daugherty With the weather stabilizing the fishing has improved dramatically. Redfish, sea trout, snook, tarpon, pompano are targets on any given day. This month we will also be dialing into the bigger tarpon run . It’s that time of year!!! Let's plan your adventure today.
