Afternoon Summer heat has the morning inshore bite on fire. The Magic hr is right when the tide switches from slack to incoming. Around the Naples and Marco island areas look for snook/reds/& snapper to be on the feed. One gimme is when you pass a shoreline with snowy egrets stacked up on the shorelines. These birds are there just waiting for the sun to come out but they’re there enjoying the bait fish Buffet. This is where I have been finding most of my action.
My tactic is simple start up current and while using my trolling motor I can methodically fish the structure as I’m passing by it. When one of my anglers gets a fish on Or an area just looks super fishy I can use my spot lock( an anchor feature on most trolling motors) to keep me right next to the strike zone. Live bait is plentiful on all beaches but if you’re looking for some bigger size you have to head offshore to the near shore Wrecks or any rubble pile in that 20 foot of water depth . A 3/8in 10/12ft cast net is my goto for getting those big pilchards of the bottom. The Mangrove snapper bite has been a go to if you’re looking to take some great tasty fish home for taco night. Look forward to seeing y’all on the water!!! Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138

Can’t beat this weather we have been having, light east winds & 80 degrees has kept the fishing red hot ! Naples and Marco island inshore fishing has been producing some action packed inshore fishing. Snook have been hungry and are eager to suck down a live bait that swims by. On the lower falling tides I have been live chumming to get the snook and jacks fired up . You can pick your weapon spin casting or fly rod and with these fish so excited they will just about eat anything that is moving . The sea trout bite remains consistent on both tides and I am catching them on live baits and gulp jigs( new penny color ). There have been some pompano action going on but be ready to stick and move as they are spread out in the passes . Looks like the good weather is holding true through the Xmas week so it’s time to get out on the water & Get M!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 Summer time fishing is heating up around the Naples and Marco island areas. Snook have been all over the backcountry and beaches. If you happen to get a light wind, sunny morning nothing beats some sight fishing for our local game fish. When looking for snook in the beaches pick a stretch of beach that is quiet and slow motor down it staying about 30 yards off the beach looking for cruising fish. Once you find a good pod of snook shut off the big motor and lower down your trolling motor. This will allow you to sneak back up to the school without spooking them. Then it’s just “target practice” ! When I take clients deep into the back country I’d like to bring a lot of live bait . This allows me to Chum heavy , to draw out the fish that are deep in the cover. Once you get the fish Poppin they will slowly understand what’s on the menu and it’s game on! The Mangrove snapper bite has been on fire. With a well full of small to medium size pilchards you have exactly what these snapper are looking for. Make sure to drop your leader down to 20 pound floral carbon as they can be very finicky. Don’t be surprised if you get your limit within the first 30 minutes! Hope to see you on the water!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 It’s been prime fishing around the Naples and Marco island areas. Snook have been packed in around the passes and beaches. There has been schools of small bait fish everywhere and our game fish have been taking to the buffet every morning. Look for these fish to be slow cruising the shallows & be ready to make that cast. If your looking for some great fish for tacos mangrove snapper are some of my favorites. These snappers are mixed in the same areas as snook so be ready for anything. One tip for some great snapper action is to make sure you use 15-20lb fluorocarbon as there are one smart fish and are very leader shy. Happy 4th of July to all !!!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 It’s been one windy April on record . We have had some great weeks of light winds but for the most part it’s been Blowing just about every week . I am ready for the hot ,humid & buggy weather to settle in and really fire up this fishery !!! The backcountry and inshore fishing around the Naples and Marco island areas have been full of action . Snook , sea trout , and redfish have been chewing good on the mornings hard incoming tides . One of my favorite ways to get these fish into a crazy feeding mode is to Chum heavy . All this means it to take bat (chum bat) fulls of pilchards and sling them close to the shorelines you are fishing . Watch for fish to explode on the fleeing baits and just cast close to where you saw the blow up and hold on. Also this chumming will draw out fish, that were deeper in the mangroves to come out and join the party. It’s a great way to get the action fired up !!! Looking forward to more great fishing in May .
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 With the weather stabilizing the fishing has improved dramatically. Redfish, sea trout, snook, tarpon, pompano are targets on any given day. This month we will also be dialing into the bigger tarpon run . It’s that time of year!!! Let's plan your adventure today.
