I always look forward to this time of year as the weather is just perfect and all of our game fish are on fire. Naples and Marco island have some of the best beaches in the country and if take your time and look around you can find some hidden gems just swimming right on by . In order to capitalize on this great fishing make sure you have a good assortment of live bait and artificials in your Arsenal. The water is clear, so if your throwing artificials or flies make sure you use light colors as to make a natural presentation . Snook , sea trout , redfish , pompano and tarpon are all roaming the inshore islands looking for an easy opportunity . October is one of my favorite months as the weather is cooling off but the fishing will heating up. C u on the water !!!

Another outstanding week of inshore and backcountry fishing in the Naples and Marco island area. Water clarity hasn’t been its normal gin clear and this is due to the heavy rains we have had. Don’t let this discourage you as these fish are moving from the beaches to the middle islands. I have been finding great numbers of red fish around the schools of mullet. I like to stay as far off the mangroves , just in casting distance and fire a live bait just on the edges of the bushes . I also like to use a “pop N cork” just a few feet above a live shiner. This allows me to know exactly where my anglers baits are at all times and will alert us to a strike. I have been hitting some of my favorite juvenile tarpon Spots located way in the backcountry off the grid. Live bait has been a guarantee with these small tarpon but it’s also fun to throw some soft plastics at rolling fish. These next two months are probably my favorites as the weather starts to get really nice and the fishing starts to really heat up. Get outside and enjoy this great playground we have. See you on the water!!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 It was a wet week in the Naples and Marco island area, with hurricane Sally passing just off our coast. Despite the off and on showers we have been treated to some outstanding inshore/backcountry red fishing. I have been focusing on the middle islands and looking for shorelines/points that have some current flowing on them. Just remember to come in slow as not to spook any fish that might be waiting and power pole down. There has been loads of snook , snapper and jacks mixed in so be ready for anything. While my anglers are fishing, I like to live chum with pilchards to really get the bite fired up. This week we have strong incoming tides so make sure you concentrate on getting you baits tight to the mangroves and be ready for that THUMP on the line. C u on the water !!!!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 It’s that time of year when fishing, you can get some big surprises. Due to the East winds are waters are gin clear and we are able to look down shorelines for snook and redfish. A good trolling motor is the key to sneaking up on a laid up snook in the bushes. I like to put my bow in the current and use the spot lock” feature to hold me in position. Now I can move freely and keep my anglers on the bite. Also last week in the Naples and Marco island areas, we have strong incoming high tides. This is the perfect Situation getting into some backcountry redfish action . I Look for points and areas where there’s good water flow. Dont forget to chum hard to bring the fish in close and then it’s non stop snook , snapper , jacks and redfish action. This week should be more of the same but the tides have shifted to outgoing in the mornings. Look for good action around the passes and middle islands where small baits are pilled in. See yah on the water !!!
Capt. Tim Daugherty www.fishthesalt.com (239) 280-8138 This weeks strong incoming tides have been producing some great inshore & backcountry action. I have fishing my trips around the Naples and Marco island areas hunting snook , redfish , sea trout, pompano, and mangrove snapper. We have been concentrating on shorelines that are piled with small live baits & birds. I always say if you can find the food you’ll find the fish and that has worked to perfection. Higher tides have these fish tight under the bushes so make sure you cast is up tight in the pockets and just off the trees. Mangrove snapper are full affect so be ready to go through tons of bait before you are tied up to a nice size snook or red fish. Mangrove snapper are some of the tastiest fish the gulf has to offer & fish tacos are a staple in our household. Make sure they are bigger than 10 inches and you are allowed five per person. Just remember to get up early get it while the getten is good. C u on the water !!!!!!
