Past weekend in the Naples and Marco island areas we hit some record cold temps ,with lows in the 30s. This definitely put a hold on the fishing for a few days but this also allowed our water temperatures to drop & our winter species to fire up . The spotted sea trout has always been a go to when the water gets chilly . You can find them on the outside islands and deep in the back country around the river mouths and creeks. I like to target them with jigs(gulps , DOAs) on a 3/4oz jig head.
Sheep head is another cool water fish That can be found in the back country and on the nearshore Wrecks. A 1/2 Piece of shrimp & a half ounce lead sent to the bottom almost definitely get you rod bent . Now that we are on A warming trend look for Snook and redfish to start moving around the middle islands in the deep back country creeks. When the gulf water clean up you can still find live bait around the beaches and on the offshore ruble piles . Get outside and enjoy this great weather! C u on the water! Capt.
